Fornerly a site of disused railway sidings this Heatland provides an interesting and rich habitat . This years plants logged include Marsh Marigold , Water For Get Me No, Goats Beard, Mallow,
Butterflies include Small Blue , Fritilary , Clouded Yellow Siting and Woodland Browns
The 13 acre site also leads down onto Toad Holes Beck where there are an additional two bodies of water which is particularly rich in Dragonfly and damsel species .The site is maintained by City Bradfford MDC
Located near to housing and industry the RawNook Heathland site, reclaimed by nature from British
Railway sidings which closed in the mid 1960s, has becomequite unique in northern England. Over fourty years after theclosure of the engine sheds and goods sidings evidence still exists of its former use. Hidden amongst the grass and heather,wooden sleepers, cinders and the occasionalrailfixing boltscan still be found. Also, a short section of boundary fencemade from reclaimed railway sleepers can be seen on thenorth western edge of the site.Sixty-eight species of flora have been identified along withfifteen types of butterfly, numerous birds, foxes and nocturnalmammals.Access to the site is on Lockwood Street, just off CleckheatonRoad, where there is a small car parking area. The site can also be accessed on foot from the Euroway Estate off theM606 or from South Bradford Golf Club. Relatively level, the site offers reasonable access to the less mobile.Railway Terrace being in close proximity to South Bradford
